| 1: Our people | ||||
| Anne Thornton is a trained nurse and has over 22 years experience managing childcare centres. She is also the mother of 3 and grandmother of 2. | ||||
| Anne has surrounded the children with people of the highest calibre. University qualified and exceptionally committed (most of our staff have been at Choklits for more than 5 years) each and every carer contributes daily to the emotional and educational growth of your child. | ||||
| 2: The home | ||||
| Choklits was once a private home before being converted into a childcare centre. This means that your child will be entering a warm, reassuring environment in which they can feel at home. The decorating was done by Laura Ashley to further enhance the 'warmth' of Choklits. | ||||
| 3: Home cooked meals | ||||
| All of our meals are prepared on the premises. This means an absolute minimum of artificial flavours, colours and preservatives. We balance the menus to ensure each child receives the best nutrition possible (our chef taught nutrition for 20 years) with fruit and vegetables a very high priority. All of this attention to detail ensures that we develop your child's eating habits day-by-day. | ||||
| We also remain flexible, changing the menu at a moments notice should the weather turn decidedly cold or hot. | ||||
| 4: Government approved | ||||
| The government only funds childcare centres which meet their exacting standards. Here is what the National Accreditation Council said about Choklits: | ||||
| "Staff show sensitivity and appreciation towards children's varied needs, taking family backgrounds and values into account. The atmosphere is relaxed as staff show respect for children's developing competence amidst a background of soothing music and decoration. Children are provided with opportunities for choice within a large range of experiences and materials which are planned to reflect children's needs, interests and abilities. Parent input into activities is valued and used in planning. Hygiene is maintained at all times and children are adopting good habits of personal care. Management practices support professional development and orientation of staff." | ||||
| 5: No videos | ||||
| Choklits is a TV-Free zone. We don't necessarily have anything against TV, but certainly feel that it is our job to give your child the most human, active and 'hands-on' day. That's why we don't have a TV and VCR. A Choklits child learns to play with others, develop self-confidence and amuse themselves. | ||||
| 6: Protecting the young | ||||
| The youngest of our children have their own playground to ensure they remain safe, confident and happy all day, every day. | ||||
| 7: It's fun to learn | ||||
| We implement all of our educational programs through games, group activities, drama and interactive learning. The programs are visual, audio and above all else fun. | ||||
| 8: Our goal | ||||
| To empower children so they can direct their own play, make choices, feel good about themselves, have respect for others, trust in people around them and have fun. That says it all in a nutshell. | ||||
