Choklits Croydon Friday Update June 13th

Happy Friday Families,

Although it was a short week as we were closed on Monday for the King’s Birthday public holiday, we certainly made the most of our time together. We hope you all enjoyed what will be the last long weekend for a little while. The winter chill arrived in full force this week, and we’ve all been keeping snug with plenty of layers. Just a friendly reminder to pack extra warm clothing for your child, including coats and beanies, so we can make sure everyone stays cosy throughout the day, especially during outdoor play.

Sports Activate with Emily…

We kicked off the week with our Activate Sports Program led by Emily. Many of you may recognise Emily, as she has worked across all Choklits services over the past few years. With qualifications in both personal training and musical theatre/dance, Emily brings a unique and dynamic approach to physical education. Her infectious energy and passion for movement truly inspire the children, who eagerly look forward to getting involved in her sessions.

Physical activity is a vital part of our curriculum as it supports gross motor development, coordination, spatial awareness and self confidence, while also helping children to build resilience and learn about teamwork. Through programs like Activate, we create opportunities for children to develop healthy habits early in life, all while having loads of fun!

You can view Emily’s full monthly plan for Activate on the Extra Curricular Display Wall (located near the K4 door). We encourage you to take a moment to have a look and stay up to date with all the exciting activities happening in our program.

The Lizard Wizard…

On Wednesday, we welcomed back Ryan and his reptile friends from The Lizard Wizard for one of our most loved incursions. This is an incursion we’ve continued to offer over the years and for good reason! It’s always an engaging, safe and educational experience that the children absolutely love.

Ryan brought along a fascinating array of animals including lizards, frogs, turtles, a ringtail possum, and even a snake! The children were captivated as they learned about each animal’s habitat, diet, unique features, and how we can protect them in the wild. Ryan also introduced the concept of nocturnal animals, those that are awake at night, which sparked lots of curiosity and discussion.

After the educational talk, the children had the opportunity to interact with the animals, either by holding them or offering a gentle pat, whichever they felt most comfortable with. We were so proud of how kind, gentle, and brave the children were during this experience. Many even chose to hold the snake, which was a big moment for some!

Incursions like this are an important part of our program as they provide real world learning opportunities, spark curiosity about the natural world, and help build confidence and empathy through hands on experiences. A big thank you to Ryan and the amazing team at The Lizard Wizard, we can’t wait to have you back next year!

Winter Wonderlands…

You may have noticed that many of our rooms have well and truly embraced the winter season, with a range of exciting and engaging winter activities happening throughout the service. From winter themed arts and crafts to sensory play, there’s plenty going on! The Nursery team have begun to transform their space into a cosy Winter Wonderland, complete with snowflakes! We cannot wait to see the finished product!

Exploring the seasons is an important part of our curriculum. It helps children to make sense of the world around them and encourages their understanding of change, time, and the environment. The best way to support this learning is through hands on, lived experiences, where children can see, feel, and interact with seasonal elements in meaningful ways.

We’re also weaving this learning into our everyday routines. Educators are reading winter stories, having group discussions, and encouraging children to notice and talk about the colder weather. We’re using these moments to remind children why we wear coats, beanies and warm layers when heading outside, helping them develop both practical life skills and self care habits.

Next Week…

Next Friday the 20th of June, our Kinder 4’s are heading off on an excursion to the REALM library. Make sure that you have signed a permission slip in the K4 room before Friday!

Just a reminder to help you stay connected, you can follow us on social media for the latest updates on everything happening at our service! You can find us on Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram @choklitsearlylearning.
