Choklits Croydon Friday Update May 30th

Happy Friday Families,

Can you believe it’s almost June?! It’s hard to believe how quickly time is flying! We’ve had such a busy, joy-filled few months here at the service, and we couldn’t be prouder of how much the children have grown and developed so far this year. Every week brings new milestones, new discoveries, and beautiful moments of connection. It’s truly an honour to witness their development as they build confidence, friendships, and a love for learning.

National Reconciliation Week…

This week we embraced National Reconciliation Week 2025 and its powerful theme, “Bridging Now to Next,” which reminds us that reconciliation is an ongoing journey, one that honours the past while building a better, more united future. While we regularly embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our everyday learning, this week gave us a meaningful opportunity to go deeper. Across all age groups, children engaged in age appropriate activities that celebrated culture, connection, and respect. Our younger children explored natural materials in sensory play, listened to traditional music and songs, and enjoyed storytimes featuring Aboriginal authors. Older children took part in discussions about Country and belonging, created beautiful dot paintings and symbolic artworks, and explored powerful stories like “Respect” and “Somebody’s Land.” We also spent time in our yarning circle, creating space for storytelling, reflection, and shared learning. These experiences not only enrich our curriculum but help nurture empathy, cultural understanding, and a strong sense of identity and inclusion for every child.

Smoking Ceremony…

On Thursday, our Room Leaders, Educational Leaders, and our 3IC Asten had the incredible opportunity to attend a special Smoking Ceremony at Realm Library, held in honour of National Reconciliation Week. This deeply meaningful event was a time for reflection, connection, and cultural appreciation, as we acknowledged the history, culture, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Smoking Ceremony, led by a local Elder, was a powerful and symbolic experience. Traditionally used to cleanse and ward off bad spirits, it also creates a space for healing and coming together. It was truly moving to stand on Country, listen to stories, and take part in such a sacred tradition.

As early childhood educators, we recognise the importance of embedding First Nations perspectives into our daily practice and curriculum. Attending events like these strengthens our commitment to reconciliation and helps us bring a deeper cultural understanding back into our learning environments. We’re looking forward to sharing what we’ve learned with the children through storytelling, music, art, and ongoing conversations about respect, identity, and belonging.

Kinder Information Night…

On Wednesday evening, we were proud to host our annual Kindergarten Information Night, a special event designed to give families an in depth look at the exciting journey their children will embark on in our Kindergarten program. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our rich, play-based curriculum, highlight our intentional teaching practices, and share how we support each child’s learning, development, and wellbeing in a warm and nurturing environment. Families had the chance to meet our passionate educators, explore the learning spaces, and discover how we prepare children for school and beyond through a focus on resilience, social skills, literacy, numeracy, and a lifelong love of learning.

If you were unable to attend but would like to learn more, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the front office. We have Kindergarten program brochures available, and our team is always happy to answer any questions you may have or chat about how our program can support your child’s unique strengths and interests. We’re here to help every step of the way!

Next Week…

Next week, we’re looking forward to another exciting Messy Play session with Asten, happening on Thursday! This month’s theme is Dinosaurs and this sensory exploration promises to be a roaring good time! Children will have the chance to dive into hands-on, imaginative experiences that combine creativity with rich sensory learning. From digging for fossils in textured sensory bins to stomping through dinosaur themed slime it’s a fantastic opportunity for children to explore textures, practice fine motor skills, and express themselves through messy, meaningful play.

Messy Play is not only fun, it also supports cognitive and physical development, encourages curiosity, and fosters social interaction in a relaxed, engaging setting. If your child isn’t normally booked in on Thursdays but you’d love for them to join in the fun, please give us a call to arrange a casual booking. We’d love to see them there, getting messy and making memories!
