Child Care Masks (1)

Do I need to wear a mask to attend child care?

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have been really proud to see some of our children already adapting to life with faces masks. Children’s ability to adapt with such positivity is inspiring to us all at Choklits. We are supporting everyone who chooses to wear a face covering and wanted to provide some clarification on the rules for child care.

In line with advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government has announced that those in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire must wear a face covering when they leave home from 11.59pm on Wednesday 22 July 2020.

Children who attend Choklits will not be required to wear a face covering. The Victorian Chief Health Officer has advised that it is not practical to require children attending child care to wear face coverings.

Choklits Educators are not required to wear face coverings while teaching, but those who wish to do so, may. Face coverings will be worn in other areas of the centre by Educators when we are not teaching (for example, in the staffroom, planning and when providing first aid), and when travelling to and from Choklits.

Parents/carers will be required to wear face coverings whenever they leave the house, including to drop off and pick up from Choklits.

The Department of Health and Human Services website has advice about face coverings, including:

  • different types that can be used
  • how to make your own
  • how to safely wear
  • how to safely remove.

Further Choklits Covid-19 updates can be found here.

Thank you for your support,

Jade and the Choklits Team
