Highlights from This Week …

Nursery: Following on from Hamish’s visit last week, the Nursery children have been immersed in many activities relating to loving your pets – including reading books, animal paintings, and even bathing our pets!

Pre-Toddlers: The Pre-Toddlers children took part in a science experiment called Fizzy potion making. The children mixed leaves, coloured water, citric acid and baking soda to make the potion. When they saw the chemical reaction, they exclaimed “Bubbles!” These types of experiments foster their curiosity, cognitive skills and language skills.

Toddlers:  Our playful Toddlers experienced the fun game of “Dancing Popcorn”.  This game involved the children holding a large parachute with colourful balls in the center, and watching them bounce up and down like popcorn. It promotes teamwork, motor skills, and physical activity. Children work together to keep the balls moving, enhancing social skills, communication, and cooperation. The game also offers sensory stimulation, encouraging children to engage in physical exercise while enjoying the interaction with peers and educators.

Kinder 3: Our Kinder 3 children had a fantastic experience learning about sustainability through gardening with Rohan.  As part of our “Plant Your Plate” program, they planted rosemary, strawberries, spinach, and capsicum in the garden. The children were excited to get their hands dirty and contribute to the growth of these plants.  After planting, the children watered the plants and educators discussed what each one needs to thrive, such as sunlight and water. They were eager to check on the plants and were curious about how they would grow over time.

Kinder 4: The Kinder 4 children explored the concepts of speed and motion through an exciting experiment with a homemade ramp. Using boxes from our recycled trash and treasure basket, the children worked together to build the ramp, bonding over their shared task. They expressed their feelings through drawings, turning the ramp into a canvas for their emotions with happy, sad, and grumpy faces, which made the project feel personal and meaningful. It was heartwarming to hear them refer to it as a “happy ramp.”

The experimentation with the ramp itself was full of curiosity and problem-solving. As the children pushed their trucks down the ramp, some even tried to make them jump into the air, exploring the forces of motion and gravity in real-time. Their excitement grew as they took turns experimenting and discussing how to make their trucks go faster or higher.

After the ramp was built, the children continued to explore and create with recycled materials for the rest of the day, which allowed them to further develop their own ideas and learn from each other. It was evident that the children were engaged not just in building their creations but in the collaborative process, as they helped one another bring ideas to life.

Educator Spotlight …

Leila, our wonderful Nursery Room Leader, is the epitome of dedication and collaboration not only in the Nursery but across our service. Leila is so very passionate about the children in our community and she is always looking for ways to enhance the curriculum she plans for the Nursery. It is also not uncommon to see her around the outdoor spaces with the big blower on her back or in the rooms pushing the vacuum cleaner around, ensuring clean and tidy spaces for our children.

Looking forward…
