Hello families,
We’ve had a beautifully busy and heartwarming week here at Choklits Surrey Hills, filled with celebration, learning, and community connection. Here’s a look at the highlights:
Messy Play with Asten…
This week, we had a fantastic time during our Messy Play session with Asten, where the children were encouraged to explore, create, and engage through a wide variety of sensory experiences.
The setup was thoughtfully designed to invite curiosity and imagination, with a wide range of textures and materials on offer—from squishy, slimy mixtures to gritty, smooth, and sticky substances. The children were free to explore with their hands, tools, and even feet, building confidence and fine motor skills through hands-on play.
One of the highlights was a whimsical tea party setup, complete with pretend cups, teapots, and trays filled with colourful goop and textured sensory bases. The children delighted in pouring, scooping, and role-playing with their friends, fostering both social and imaginative play.
Another favourite was the colour mixing station, where children could experiment with paints, foam, and other colourful materials. Watching the children’s faces light up as they discovered how red and blue make purple—or how adding white changed everything—was a wonderful reminder of how learning unfolds so naturally through play.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea – Choklits Edition…
On Friday, we proudly took part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds and awareness for the Cancer Council—a cause close to many of our hearts. It was a beautiful morning filled with community spirit, connection, and generosity. Families were invited to join us for a shared morning tea and given the opportunity to make a gold coin donation to support cancer research and vital services for those affected.
In a very special addition to the day, we also celebrated the grand opening of our ‘Choklits Art Gallery’! Our creative little learners have each produced their very own masterpieces, proudly displayed throughout our hallways for all to enjoy. From colourful abstract works to thoughtful brushstrokes and imaginative scenes, each piece reflects the individuality and expression of its young artist.
Families are invited to ‘name their price’ for their child’s artwork, with all proceeds going directly to the Cancer Council. At the end of next week, families will be able to take home their child’s artwork, and we’ll officially close the doors on this year’s art gallery.
It’s been incredibly heartwarming to see the children take such pride in their creations and to watch our centre community come together in support of such an important cause.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, donated, and helped make this a meaningful and memorable event.

Sustainable Development Research Initiative…
In May, our sustainability goal at Choklits Surrey Hills is Life Below Water.
This goal, part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focuses on conserving and sustainably using our oceans, seas, and marine resources. It highlights the importance of reducing marine pollution, protecting marine ecosystems, supporting sustainable fishing practices, and raising awareness about the critical role oceans play in supporting life on Earth.
We can’t wait to see all the thoughtful and engaging activities our educators will create to help children explore and understand this important theme!
Educator Highlight…
This week we’re celebrating Feri, who works with our 0–2 age group. With her warm and cheerful nature, she brings comfort and joy to the children each day.
Feri shows genuine care for every child, always ready with a cuddle, a smile, or a helping hand. Her maturity and willingness to jump in and support her team make her an invaluable part of our centre.
Thank you, Feri, for the love and care you bring to our littlest learners!
National Simultaneous Storytime…
This week, we were thrilled to take part in National Simultaneous Storytime, a wonderful event that brings children and educators across the country together to share the joy of reading.
This year’s chosen book, ‘The Cat Truck’ by Peter Millett and Tony Neal, was a big hit with the children! In our Kinder Room, we made the experience extra special by hanging up a large sheet and projecting the book onto it, creating a magical, theatre-style reading environment that made everyone feel part of something big.
The children were fully engaged, pointing out the colourful illustrations, laughing at the Cat Truck’s silly antics, and joining in with familiar phrases. It was an amazing way to bring the story to life and create a shared, memorable moment of learning and fun.
