Choklits Surrey Hills Friday Update May 30th

Hello families,

Happy Friday, Families!

As we wrap up another wonderful week here at Choklits Surrey Hills, we’re reflecting on the many special moments that continue to fill our days with learning, laughter and community spirit. With winter fast approaching, it’s been lovely to see the children rugging up, enjoying the fresh air, and embracing all the opportunities that each day brings. From family events to exciting incursions, here’s what we’ve been up to this week!

Kinder Information Night…

On Wednesday evening, we proudly hosted our annual Kindergarten Information Night – a fantastic opportunity for families to learn more about our play-based learning program and how we support children’s school readiness through curiosity, resilience, and meaningful relationships.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our incredible teaching team – Sue, Harleen, Ratna, Regina, and Chai – who presented with warmth and passion, sharing insights into our curriculum and the many enriching experiences we offer, such as our wide range of incursions and excursions. It was lovely to connect with so many families and celebrate the unique approach we take to early childhood education.

If you couldn’t attend but would like to learn more, please reach out! Our team is always happy to chat or provide you with more information.

National Reconciliation Week…

This week, we are proud to acknowledge and participate in National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared history, learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and strengthen the journey toward reconciliation. Through age-appropriate stories, art, and discussion, we’ve explored the importance of respect, truth-telling, and unity. The children have engaged in meaningful activities such as painting with traditional symbols, listening to Dreamtime stories, and talking about caring for Country. As educators, we are committed to embedding Indigenous perspectives into our everyday practice and helping children grow up with understanding, empathy, and a deep appreciation for the world’s oldest continuing culture.

Literacy Learning Morning Tea at ‘Our Lady of the Pines’…

On Thursday, the Kinder team went down to ‘Our Lady of the Pines’ Primary School to join their Vision for instruction session.

This session was a wonderful opportunity for us to learn about how the school teaches reading and writing, using approaches informed by the latest cognitive science. It also offered practical insights into how literacy is taught in the early years and how we can support your child’s learning at home.

Fire Truck Incursion…

Friday brought some very exciting visitors – a real fire truck and Charlie’s dad from Kinder 4! The children were absolutely thrilled to explore the truck, try on firefighter helmets, and learn about fire safety in a hands-on and engaging way.

This incursion sparked lots of questions, imaginative play, and even some heroic role-playing later in the day! We’re incredibly grateful to Charlie’s family for sharing this experience with us – it’s these moments that help build real-world connections and lasting memories.

Next Week…

We’re looking forward to another fun-filled week ahead with all our regular incursions and special activities planned. Don’t forget to check out our Choklits Calendar of Events to stay up to date with everything happening across the centre!

As the Weather Changes…

With the cooler weather well and truly here, please make sure your child has a labelled jacket or jumper packed each day. We still love spending time outside, so dressing warmly helps us enjoy the season while staying comfortable.

We’d love your help to help us improve at Choklits…
