Choklits Croydon Friday Update May 2nd

Happy Friday Families,

We’re back in full swing after the Easter break and the Anzac Day long weekends and what a joy it’s been to have a full week together! With the extra time, we made sure every day was filled with creativity, learning, laughter, and movement. From arts and crafts to outdoor play, we’ve been busy exploring, creating, and connecting. It’s been a wonderful week and we can’t wait to share all the highlights with you!

Weekly Incursions…

By now, you probably know we love to pack our weeks full of exciting and engaging activities! Our regular incursions are a big part of this, offering something special for every child, every day. These sessions don’t just keep us busy, they support children’s development in fun, meaningful ways.

We started the week with Sustainability with Tanya and our Italian lesson on Monday, two favourites that build cultural awareness and a love for caring for our world. On Tuesday, we sang and danced with Kat from Rhythm and Moves, a playful session that supports musicality, movement, and self confidence.

Wednesday was a big day! We worked on our flexibility with Yoga with Tanaya, followed by Piano with Michael, who kindly stepped in for Sally while she’s on holiday. Then we got active with Sports Activate, where Jesse (filling in for Parth) helped us focus on running and jumping, great for gross motor skills and all the big energy the children have!

On Thursday, we headed out to the garden for our Plant to Plate session with Jayde. We’re learning to care for our winter crops and are especially excited about harvesting our potatoes and beans. Later, Lily led a fun Dance class that got everyone moving and smiling.

We ended the week with Auslan on Friday, guided by Philippa. These sessions help children build inclusive communication skills and confidence through hands on learning. We’re so lucky to have such a talented team bringing their passions into our program and we can’t wait to do it all again next week.

Messy Play…

Friday brought one of our favourite monthly incursions, Messy Play with Asten! This month’s theme was all about food, and the children absolutely loved diving into the messy world of sensory exploration. We set up five stations, a fancy high tea, ice creams, milkshakes, spaghetti, and fried rice, with each one designed to spark creativity, encourage tactile exploration, and support fine motor development. There were squishy textures, bright colours, and plenty of laughs as the children scooped, poured, mixed, and mashed. These kinds of experiences are not just fun, they’re powerful learning opportunities that support early science concepts, language development, and sensory regulation. Needless to say, we got super messy and had an absolute blast!

Bush Kinder…

On Thursday, our Kinder 4s headed off on another exciting Bush Kinder adventure to Warrien Reserve, a highlight of our weekly program! The morning begins with an enthusiastic ride on the local bus (undoubtedly the children’s favourite part!) before a short walk to the reserve. Once we arrive, it’s time to explore. Climbing trees, collecting sticks, looking for insects, and running freely around the reserve. After all that, we gather for a picnic lunch prepared by our Chef Tayani, sandwiches, fresh fruit, sultanas, and plenty of water to keep us going.

After we’ve refuelled, we head over to the huge playground for even more fun, climbing, swinging, sliding, and burning off the last of that incredible Kinder energy! Once it’s time to head back, we walk back to the bus and return to the service for some well earned quiet time. This gives us space to reflect and share our favourite moments of the day. This week’s top picks were as usual, the bus ride, the bugs we found crawling on the trees, and the ever popular playground.

Bush Kinder is a treasured part of our program, it fosters resilience, curiosity, independence, and a deep connection to the natural world. We are so proud of how confidently and safely our children explore, listen, and engage each week. We are already counting down the days until we head out again.

Jumpstart Joeys Literacy Program…

This week, we had a special visit from Siobhan from Jumpstart Joeys, who brought her energy and expertise to our Kinder 3s on Thursday for an engaging literacy session. Each visit from Siobhan is carefully designed to introduce early literacy concepts in a playful, meaningful way, laying a strong foundation for language development and a lifelong love of reading.

During the session, the children explored a new letter sound through a variety of hands on, interactive activities. Siobhan’s program is grounded in evidence based practices that make early literacy fun and accessible, helping children build confidence with sounds, letters, and early word recognition. We’re thrilled to be offering this program as part of our curriculum and can’t wait to welcome Siobhan back for the next session!

Dinosaur Discovery…

This week, our Pre Kinders took part in a Dinosaur Discovery Expedition! The children became little paleontologists, sifting through sand to uncover hidden dinosaurs. With brushes in hand, they carefully dusted off their prehistoric finds and proudly shared their discoveries with peers and educators alike.

This sensory rich activity was more than just fun, it supported a range of important developmental skills. As children dug and brushed, they strengthened their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. The open ended nature of the activity also encouraged curiosity, language development, and imaginative play as they discussed their “fossils” and created stories about their dinosaur friends. These kinds of experiences foster early scientific thinking while allowing children to explore at their own pace.

Educator spotlight…

This week, we’re shining a light on one of our incredible educators, Prag! After returning from a well deserved holiday with her family, she was met with huge smiles and open arms from the children who were so excited to see her back. Prag brings a beautiful, infectious energy that children are naturally drawn to. Her warmth, compassion, and genuine connection with each child make her a truly treasured part of our team.

Prag works across all rooms in the service, and it’s no secret that each room hopes they’ll get a turn with her! Her ability to engage so meaningfully with children of all ages, and to support each room with such enthusiasm and care, is something we deeply value. We’re incredibly grateful for everything Prag brings to our community, her positivity, her dedication, and her wholehearted presence each day. Thank you Prag for all that you do!

Our favourite social post…

This week, our favourite social post featured a beautiful photo carousel capturing a creative, hands on experience in our Pre Kinder room. Our talented educators guided the children through a sensory exploration using recycled materials, turning repurposed wipe lids into interactive “sensory pockets.” These pockets were filled with a mix of textures like twigs, feathers, sequins, twine, and fabric, inviting children to touch, explore, and create.

This thoughtful activity supported sensory development, fine motor skills, and imaginative thinking, while also introducing the children to the value of sustainability in a fun and accessible way. We loved seeing their curiosity and creativity bloom as they explored each pocket with wonder. You can check out the gorgeous photos and see the magic for yourself here!

We warmly welcome all mothers, grandmothers, and special people in your child’s life to join us for a beautiful afternoon of connection, celebration, and treats. It’s one of our favourite events of the year, and we can’t wait to share it with you!
