Happy Friday Families,
What a chilly week it’s been! As the temperatures drop, we’d like to remind everyone to please pack extra layers, including a warm, waterproof coat, so your child can continue to enjoy plenty of outdoor play while staying snug and comfortable. Even with the cold weather, we’ve packed a lot into this week and we can’t wait to share all the exciting things your children have been learning and exploring!
Living Safely with Dogs…
We kicked off our week with a special visit from the “Living Safely with Dogs” program. The children were captivated by the hands-on experience and loved meeting our furry guest. During the session, they learned how to safely approach and interact with dogs, how to read a dog’s body language, and what to do if they ever feel unsure around an unfamiliar animal. This incursion sparked lots of rich conversation, imaginative role play, and storytelling throughout the week. Many children shared their own experiences with pets at home, and we built on their curiosity by setting up related activities, including drawing their pets and practicing safety scenarios.
Rhythm and Moves…
On Tuesday, we enjoyed our weekly visit from Rhythm and Moves, our much loved music and movement class. This is always a highlight of the week, and we love that it’s a part of our program where every child can join in and shine! From singing nursery rhymes with our Nursery children, to dancing with the Toddlers and Pre Kinders, and making music with the Kinders, there truly is something for everyone. It’s a joy to see the children expressing themselves through rhythm, song, and movement, building their confidence and coordination while having so much fun. Check out this week’s reel to see just how much the children enjoy getting involved, Click here!
Messy Play…
On Thursday, we had an incredible messy play session with Asten, and what a hit it was! This month’s theme was dinosaurs, and to say the children loved it would be an understatement. From start to finish, they were completely engaged, hands deep in oozing, bubbling, crunchy, and gooey textures that brought the prehistoric world to life.
The excitement reached new heights when we unveiled a real erupting volcano, which the Kinder 4 children had helped Asten build earlier in the week. Watching it bubble and fizz with “lava” was a moment of pure awe and joy for the whole group. It was another amazing setup by Asten, who truly keeps outdoing herself, each experience is more creative and engaging than the last!
Beyond all the fun, sensory play like this is so important for young children’s development. It supports cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, language development, and social interaction. By exploring different materials and engaging their senses, children build neural connections in the brain, strengthen their ability to focus, and learn to regulate their emotions. Messy play also gives children the freedom to experiment, take risks, and express themselves in unique ways. We’re so grateful to have these experiences as part of our program, they’re not just memorable, they’re meaningful.
Next Week…
Just a quick reminder that we’ll be closed on Monday, June 9th for the King’s Birthday public holiday. We hope you enjoy the long weekend, and we’ll see everyone back on Tuesday the 10th!
We’re also very excited for a special visit on Wednesday from Wizard Lizard for our Kinder classes. This interactive incursion is always a crowd pleaser, and we can’t wait to see what amazing creatures they’ll bring along this time. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about reptiles and other fascinating animals in a safe, hands-on way.
Social Media…
This week, our Director Savannah jumped on Instagram to share some insightful thoughts about the value of multi-aged learning and why it’s such a pivotal part of our program. At our centre, we truly believe in the power of children learning from and alongside each other, regardless of age. It fosters empathy, leadership, confidence, and a real sense of community. You can watch that reel, here!
