Hello families,
This week at Choklits Ringwood, our children had an absolute blast diving into a variety of fun-filled Easter-themed activities! One of the highlights was a messy play session with Asten, which was as fun and engaging as ever. The little ones couldn’t get enough of it! We’re all eagerly anticipating our Easter Bonnet Parade next week, which promises to be a wonderful celebration.
Another exciting moment this week was when Dr. Shanya, Kai’s mother, visited us to show the toddlers her cool stethoscope and share insights about her important role in our community. The children loved learning about the work she does, and we’re so grateful for the time she spent with us. A big thank you to Dr. Shanya for making this week extra special!
Highlights from the week…
Nursery: The nursery children are learning about colours through their senses. This week, our little ones engaged in a variety of activities to support their colour recognition, including playing with sensory bottles and sorting items by colour. By introducing colours in such interactive ways, we are helping the children not only identify colours but also associate them with different textures and experiences, which enhances their understanding. Sensory play, like using bottles filled with colourful items, stimulates their visual and tactile senses, encouraging brain development. Additionally, sorting objects by colour promotes fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and cognitive skills such as categorisation and problem-solving. These activities also lay the foundation for later learning in art, as children begin to explore colour mixing and create their own colourful masterpieces.
Pre-Toddlers: Our pre-toddler children engaged in a hands-on activity designed to enhance their understanding of healthy eating while also strengthening their finger muscles. Using child-safe knives and an orange juicer, they squeezed their own oranges to make fresh juice. This activity not only introduced them to the concept of healthy foods but also helped develop fine motor skills as they practiced gripping, cutting, and juicing. These types of activities are crucial as they support hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and strength in their fingers and hands, laying the foundation for more complex tasks like writing and self-care. Additionally, by involving them in preparing healthy snacks, we’re fostering an early appreciation for nutritious foods, encouraging them to make positive choices as they grow.
Toddlers: The highlight of our outdoor area was the infectious giggles and laughter that filled the air as our little learners played a variety of exciting games with Sharon and Tara in the outdoor area. The children had a blast practicing their counting skills while playing hide-and-seek and “What’s the Time, Mr. Wolf?”, two games that kept everyone engaged and having fun! These games not only promote essential skills like counting, but also help develop social abilities, improve listening and concentration, and encourage teamwork and turn-taking. Additionally, they support physical activity, enhancing coordination and motor skills, all while providing an enjoyable and interactive learning experience.
Kinder 3: The Kinder 3 children are learning about Bungil the eagle, an important figure in Aboriginal mythology. As part of this exploration, they worked on a collaborative artwork to create their own Bunjil, inspired by the story of Bunjil, the powerful eagle. Teaching children about Aboriginal culture and stories is vital as it helps them develop an understanding and appreciation of the rich history and traditions of the First Nations people. By engaging with these stories, children gain insight into the values, beliefs, and connections that Indigenous cultures have with the land, animals, and spirituality. Additionally, activities like creating art inspired by cultural stories promote creativity, teamwork, and cultural awareness, fostering respect and empathy for diverse cultures. This experience encourages children to see the importance of storytelling in preserving history and helps instill a sense of pride in cultural diversity.
Kinder 4: Our Kinder 4 children have been having lots of fun learning about the alphabet and discovering words that begin with each letter. They’ve also been practising their counting skills through engaging, hands-on activities. To extend this learning, the children have been playing a group bingo game that combines both letters and numbers. This fun and interactive game not only reinforces letter recognition and early literacy but also supports number recognition and counting in a playful and social setting. Group games like bingo help build turn-taking skills, encourage active listening, and promote collaboration, all while making learning enjoyable and meaningful!
